Udall Scholarship

This scholarship rewards students with sophomore or junior standing who have an interest in environmental policy.

Screening Timeline for 2009 Competition

  • September 2008 : Application Process opens.
  • Students schedule individual meetings with Becky Mentzer, Honors Associate Director & National Scholarship Advisor, to go over application process (call 438-2559 for an appointment).
  • Students can meet with or send drafts to Becky at rementz@ilstu.edu for review and suggestions before the deadline.
  • February 6, 2009: Complete applications due to Honors Program no later than 4:30 p.m. Students complete applications; request transcripts; and obtain three faculty members to complete evaluation forms/reference letters (sent directly to Honors Program, Campus Box 6100 no later than 4:30pm)
  • February 9, 2009: Applications are distributed to Campus Screening Committee.
  • Week of February 16, 2009: Campus Screening Committee meets to discuss application and to make helpful suggestions for final application, and to select campus nominations (up to 6); following the meeting, Becky will contact applicants by February 20, 2009.

  • February 26, 2009: Students return final draft of application to Honors Program by 1:30 p.m.
    (no late applications can be accepted)

  • February 27, 2009: Honors Program sends in all nominations by overnight mail

  • March 3, 2009: Udall deadline for receipt of all nomination materials.
  • March 2009: An independent review committee appointed by Udall Foundation will evaluate all complete and eligible nominations and select the most outstanding nominees.
  • April 2009: Scholars and Faculty Representatives are notified of awards and recipients are formally announced.

  • August 5 - 9, 2009: Udall Scholar Orientation (required)
