Fulbright Scholar Alternates: Fatima-Zohra Belghiti and Margaret Iha

Fatima-Zohra Belghiti and Margaret Iha were designated by the Fulbright Commission as alternates for the 2007-2008 U.S. Fulbright Student Program. Should someone withdraw or additional funding become available, they could be offered a grant to do the research they proposed.

Ms. Belghiti proposed research in Morocco to examine, from the perspective of gender studies, the discourse on justice generated in the aftermath of the 2004 truth commission and to explore the emergent testimonial literature of Moroccan writers.

Ms. Iha proposed to go to Romania to research and write a play about the life and political influence of Romanian Princess Marthe Bibescu, who developed international political influence, unusual for a Romanian woman during a time that spanned both world wars.

Ms. Belghiti completed her Master of Education degree in May 2007 in Languages, Literature & Culture and Women’s Studies. Ms. Iha earned her Master of Science in Politics and Government and Women’s Studies in December 2006. She also had a world premier at Illinois State University of her play, “Hopeless Spinning,” that month.
