For my service learning project I have been volunteering for the Minister of Music at my local church, College Avenue Baptist Church. My “special project” is to organize and take inventory of all of the music the church owns, but I spend most of my time and energy helping with the church choirs. I’ve been serving as the director of the adult choir and assisting with the children’s choir as well. I cannot even begin to explain how much I’ve been enjoying this project. I basically get honors credit for helping out an organization I’m passionate about, and I’m getting great experience for my future as a choir conductor, too. I’ve learned a lot about myself as a conductor and what it is like teaching music in the real world, instead of with my peers and instructors. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to spread my wings both personally and academically!
