Service Learning

The Service Learning Component of the Presidential Scholars Program provides a community based experience that facilitates the students' personal and professional growth. Not only does this experience give students an opportunity to contribute to their community, but it also expands their knowledge beyond academics and provides living skill development (i.e., communication, stress management, assertiveness, negotiation, problem solving, and time management.)

During their sophomore or junior year, students register for a three credit-hour course and complete 130 hours of service at a local not-for-profit site. The class meets once a week for 50 minutes for a small group discussion. Students select their own project site in consultation with Anita Chiodo, Service-Learning Coordinator.
