Welcome to PS Freshman Colloquium

August 2008

December 2008

Course Goals

This colloquium will assist first year Presidential Scholars in making a successful transition to Illinois State University as a Presidential Scholar. Through successful completion of this course, you will:

  1. Understand the Honors Program and Presidential Scholars Program requirements and the opportunities available as a participant of both;
  2. Develop an individualized educational plan of study which will include all PS core, major, minor and university graduation requirements;
  3. Learn about the process of selecting a faculty colleague as a mentor in your major department; and learn about the value of having a retired professional as another type of mentor;
  4. Develop a resume and learn about the services of the Career Center;
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of available resources, organizations, and activities on campus and in the community;
  6. Articulate the importance of civic engagement, global education, and the role of community service to your academic life and professional career;
  7. Build positive relationships with other first year Presidential Scholars and Honors Program staff.

Blackboard

  • Our colloquium will be using Blackboard, a program where instructors can post their course syllabus and other class information on-line. Since many other classes utilize Blackboard, if not this semester, in the future you are sure to encounter this as part of your college experience.
  • You can access your classes on Blackboard, including this one, from iCampus. Throughout the semester, please check Blackboard for assignment descriptions, the course schedule for both the day and night classes, a calendar and announcements, and your grades.
