Procedures
If you would like to participate in the Faculty Colleague Program, please follow the steps below:
- Find potential faculty colleagues—contact departmental advisors, departmental honors coordinators, faculty with similar interests as yours, or professor teaching a major class.
- “Interview” two potential faculty colleagues and select one with which to work.
- Create a faculty colleague plan including a listing of courses for your major(s), minor(s), PS core curriculum, and electives, as well as a detailed 8-semester plan. Discuss course selection and sequence of courses with faculty colleague. You and your faculty colleague may wish to meet with the departmental advisor of your major to review major requirements and the sequence in which courses should be taken.
- With the faculty colleague, discuss departmental opportunities (example: research, activities, departmental organizations, etc).
- Submit your signed faculty colleague plan to Sara Schickel by November 17.
How do I find a faculty colleague?
Faculty colleagues can be a professor you have in a course or a faculty member with similar interests. There are several ways to go about finding a faculty member with similar interests. Here are a few ideas:
- Schedule a meeting with the Departmental Advisor in your major. After speaking with you about your areas of interest, he or she may suggest several faculty members who may be a good “match”.
- Look at the Web site of your department. Many departments have faculty pages where you can learn more about the research interests of the faculty.
- Discuss the program with a faculty member who teaches one of your major classes.
