Student Spotlight: Warren McCarty

Honors Program student athlete Warren McCarty is a junior Business Administration major who keeps himself busy with many activities including being a wide receiver for the Illinois State football team, a senior campus representative for Apple, a member of the Business Administration club, and an aspiring rap star!

As a member of the football team, Warren has year round practices and conditioning that are sure to keep him busy, but the football field is not the only place you’ll see #3. Warren and the rest of the football team are involved in many community service projects, including Relay for Life and a project in which they helped build a new playground at Washington Elementary School. Warren is sure to give his team points as a Scholar Baller, too. Scholar Baller is a contest between teams of football players to earn points for good grades and community service.

Warren is also a senior campus representative for Apple. This has given him the opportunity to go to California for training and have the coolest new gadgets, including the iPhone. Part of his job as a campus representative is to meet with Deans of the different colleges and convince them to use Mac computers in their labs. When asked if he had any advice for students, Warren’s words of wisdom are, “Get a Mac!”

Warren is using his connection with Apple in helping to organize a blood drive for the Business Administration Association. Warren has arranged for a free iPod to be given away to one lucky blood donor. He is also involved in other activities of the Business Administration Association including Business Week activities.

Warren says that some of the best things about being a student athlete at Illinois State include being rewarded with many opportunities including personal attention and assistance to make sure that the athletes succeed on and off the field. He also values the friendships he has with the other athletes, including his roommate, who is the other half of Warren’s rap group, Six 4. Be on the look out for these two ISU football players and their music! Warren would love to be a rap star!

Other than his advice to get a Mac, Warren’s advice is to find something you’re interested in and get involved!
