Student Spotlight: Audrey Karrick

Audrey Karrick, a Bone Scholar, will graduate summa cum laude in May 2008 with the integrated accounting Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. After graduation, Audrey will begin working at State Farm in their Financial Reporting and Analysis division.

Throughout her time at ISU, Audrey has kept very busy! She is always pushing herself to do one more thing than she thinks she has time for so that she can make the most of her college experience. Audrey is very aware that you are only in college once and she wants to graduate without having any regrets about not doing something she could have while she was here.

In sticking with her plan, Audrey has had many experiences on and off campus that have enriched her time at ISU. One of those experiences was being a resident assistant in Honors House. She felt that the community and atmosphere in Honors House was very open and unique. From day one, the people on her floor seemed to know each other or were open to meeting new people. She liked that there were so many people with different majors who were all able to get along well together and enjoy each other’s company. Being an RA in Honors House was a great experience for Audrey because she enjoyed the people who lived on her floor and the Honors events that she attended. She would recommend Honors House to all Honors students as a great place to live and meet other Honors students.

Audrey is thankful that she quickly found a major that she enjoyed. She feels that because she enjoys accounting she pushed herself to get involved in the major and make the most of the resources and opportunities at ISU. She is involved with Beta Alpha Psi, a co-ed Honors fraternity for Accounting, Finance and Information Systems majors. She held the position of Vice President and organized community service projects and events for the fraternity. She also was involved in getting companies to come speak to her group about their business. One of her favorite parts of Beta Alpha Psi was that she was able to develop better relationships with other students and faculty through her membership and vice presidency.

Currently, Audrey is a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Accounting where she is able to assist professors and tutor students in accounting courses. In addition to her GA position and taking a full course load, she is also working part time at State Farm on a special project and is studying for the CPA exam. She’ll take the first part of the exam in April.

Audrey’s advice to students is to be active and remember to have fun! She wants students to know, “It’s ok to watch a movie on Tuesday nights!”
