This study aims to unravel the occurrence and characteristics of feedback moves in the context of dyadic interaction between a native-speaking interlocutor and an English-as-a-second-language (ESL) learner. This study further explores the differential impact of the interactional feedback moves on ESL learners' immediate responses and repair of their non-target-like form. Results of this study will shed light on the repertoire of teacher talk in interacting with ESL learners in the classroom and beyond.

For this project, I am looking for someone who is interested in gaining some experience of transcribing the conversational data. Since I'll provide a training session, there's no need for previous experience. It would be a plus to have some interest in language studies and detail-oriented qualities.

I would like to invite Honors Program undergraduates, particularly English majors with an interest in Linguistics, to join in the research project entitled “Gender, Status and Address: What are the Conventions?”

In this project, a team of researchers, faculty, graduate students and undergraduates, will use focus group interviews, class observation and questionnaires to research student and faculty preferences in face-to-face address: what do we want people to call us, and what do we prefer to call them?

Undergraduate researchers will help in gathering data, in recording and transcribing interviews, and will organize, write and present their own research presentation for the Research Symposium in April.
