Spent a month in Arizona and went to a bunch of concerts!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Bake, movie marathons, hit the beach, and be with friends!!

ITALY!!!  There is SOOoo much history and culture...(and it's my minor)

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Try something new, it's the easiest way to meet new people!

Tyler Clark

What did you do this summer?

I worked at Pekin Insurance as a summer intern. Pekin Insurance has a robot that delivers the mail.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

President of the United States of America

If you could be an animal, what would you be?

I would be a Wookie because I would have the best of both worlds: man and dog.

What advice do you have for freshmen?

"Don't put Twinkies on your pizza." Just kidding. Get involved with as much as you can!

Mackenzie Curtin

What did you do this summer?

Blessed to go on TWO trips to Disney World, worked, took some classes...and hung out with my family!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

hang out with friends - usually including food!, play the piano, scrapbook, run

What is your favorite ISU memory?

Capture the flag on the quad at midnight...in the pouring rain!

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Get involved!!! I promise - you will never regret it!

Ashley Dobbins

Junior, Speech Pathology

Hometown:

Oswego, IL

What did you do this summer?

My friend and I backpacked for 10 days through London, Milan, Venice, and Paris.  We then met up with our study abroad group in Ireland and spent four weeks there.  It was pretty much amazing!

What is your favorite book?

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.  I know, I'm a dork.  But Tolkien is an incredible writer.  He can take you places that you could only dream of.

Dream vacation:

New Zealand

What advice do you have for new freshmen?

Don't worry about finding everything in the first week, even month, that you're here.  You'll have the next four years to get acquainted with ISU and Bloomington/Normal.  Just worry about the major transition you are going to have from high school to college.

Christine Doman

Year in School and major:

Junior, Communication Education

What did you do this summer?

I worked as an associate trainer at Panera Bread while taking online classes through ISU. Taking some trips to visit friends and visiting with family! After my online classes, I will have six weeks without any classes. This is my first break from classes since high school! :)

What is your favorite memory of ISU?

My freshman year I was hanging out with a bunch of my friends (ironically most of them were from my freshman honors seminar class). We watched Dane Cook on SNL and then went outside for a huge snowball fight. We all only had sweatshirts and no gloves or anything. It was soooo much fun!

If you could be an animal, what would you be?

I would like to be a goldfish because I am a fan of making fishy faces and that way I could wiggle my tooshy and make fishy faces all day long! Plus, I love water! :)

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Don't be afraid to figure out who you are. There are a lot of things going on during your freshman year. It's important to be true to yourself.

Sarah Hoekstra

Sophomore, Special Education

Hometown:

LaSalle-Peru, IL

What did you do this summer?

I worked in a group home for adults with disabilities and spent a week on the beach in Florida (and got paid for it)!

What do you like to do in your spare time?

If gas wasn't so expensive, I would say taking road trips. I love a little out-of-state adventure. But, I also love to scrapbook and organize!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When I eventually grow up...I hope to be a high school special education teacher, teaching anywhere but the city. And maybe a motivational speaker later on...maybe.

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Time management! Learn to use it to your advantage! Oh, and take the roommate conflict contracts that you fill out the first week in the residence hall seriously, you may need them later on...

Bryan Lindskog

What did you do this summer?

I took a crazy family vacation with my fiancée, my mom and stepdad, and my grandma and grandpa to Tampa, FL.  While we were there, we went to Busch Gardens.  That day my grandma of 78 years old and my grandpa of 81 years old, both went on the raging river ride!  HOW COOL!

Dream vacation:

DISNEY WORLD, hands down.  Yeah, I have been there over a dozen times, but every time I go, I just get this rush of happiness and I become a kid again, not that I don't act like a kid all the time anyway...

What is your favorite memory of ISU?

Proposing to my fiancée at the 2006 Big Red Marching Machine Band Formal...definitely.

What advice do you have for freshmen?

GO TO CLASS, Get involved in at least one activity besides studying or facebook!

Tracy Murphy

Sophomore, Bilingual/Bicultural Education

What did you do this summer?

I worked as a day camp counselor (and loved it)! I also trained for the Chicago Half Marathon.

Dream vacation:

My dream vacation would be to be a participant on Amazing Race and travel around the whole world!

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a bilingual teacher and open an orphanage in another country.

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Make some good friends who you can be yourself with!

Molly Sharer

What did you do this summer?

I took an online class, worked at Preview, and exercised.

What is your favorite memory of ISU?

SNOW DAY, December 2006!  My roommate and I ate waffles, went sledding, and got out of tests:)

What do you want to be when you grow up?

I want to be a PE teacher and help children find an activity they will enjoy the rest of their lives.

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Find an organization to join that has many meetings ... the more time you have together, the better you will know people.

George VanWinkle

What did you do this summer?

I worked. I worked. OH! I worked some more - did I mention the fact that I worked? I tried to find jobs that were career oriented - jobs that would look good on an application, and would help prepare me for challenges I might face when I am working after college.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

READ and watch movies - every summer I make up a list of books and movies that I want to have completed by the end of the summer. I find that if I treat it like a challenge, I can usually get them all finished.

What is your favorite memory of ISU?

The close-knit circle of friends that I've made. They have truly helped me out more than anything else - it's great to know you have that safety net of people to fall back on - even if you are far from home.

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Don't be afraid to branch out and try new things! One of the biggest parts of the "college experience" is to broaden your horizons - inside the classroom and out!

Enjoyed spending time with my grandchildren; went to D.C. for a conference and to MI for a mini-vacation.

What is your favorite memory of ISU?

successfully defending my master's thesis

If you could be an animal, what would you be?

a cat--they take lots of naps and eat only their favorite food, and pretty much that's all they have to do

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Enjoy the process of getting acquainted with the campus and Bloomington/Normal community; make new friends; go to class; talk to your professors--they like Honors students!

What did you do this summer?

Went to Door County, Wisconsin, and spent time with friends

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I just finished my Master's degree in May, so I enjoy reading for fun and not feeling guilty because I should be working on my thesis.

Dream vacation:

Australia and I would love to go back to Italy.

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Learn how to use the library, both the online search engines and the layout of the stacks. You can get so much info online, but sometimes you do need to actually get a book.

Lacey Bordewick

Bachelor of Science in Accounting from ISU

What did you do this summer?

I had an auditing internship with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Peoria.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Read and scrapbook when I have enough time.

Dream vacation:

Europe.  I've always wanted to travel throughout Europe and hopefully some day I'll get to!

What advice do you have for freshmen?

Take advantage of your professor's office hours!  If you are having trouble following in class, it is a great way to get the one on one attention that will help you to succeed, and if you just have a small question it is still a great time to get to know them and make connections that will prove valuable to you throughout your time at ISU.

Live your life in the present because the next four years will fly by.
