Purpose/Description:
To encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship while advancing the science of psychology at the undergraduate level.
Membership Criteria:
1. Completion of at least three semesters or five quarters of college coures, including one semester at Illinois State University.
2. Completion of 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of pscyhology, including two 300-level coures.
3. Registration for major or minor standing.
4 . Undergraduates who are elected to Illinois State University Psi Chi must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in their couses at ISU, and a minimum Psychology GPA of 3.3 in all undergraduate psychology coures, as well as a 3.3 in 300-level courses.
5. Graduate students must have an average grade of "B" or better in all graduate courses, including psychology courses.
6. High standards of personal behavior.
7. Two-thirds affirmative vote of those present at a regular meeting of the chapter.
Membership Costs:
The Psi Chi national membership fee is $35. This one-time fee is for lifetime membership, a certifcate suitable for framing, and a membership card. There are no annual national dues, but the Illinois State University chapter charges lifetime chapter dues of $35. This helps defray induction costs and some of the chapter activitites. Thus, the total application cost is $70.
Membership Benefits:
When you are inducted into Psi Chi, you become eligible to wear the Psi Chi honor cord, medallion, jewelry, emblems, etc. Psi Chi members are eligible to present reesearch papers/posters at Psi Chi programs held at national and regional conventions. In addition, members may participate in Psi Chi's undergraduate and graduate research award competitions, and undergraduate members may submit their research for publication in the Psi Chi Journal of Undergraduate Research.
