Purpose/Description:
The mission of the organization is to encourage scholarship, leadership and research within the profession of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Membership Criteria:
For undergraduates, the requirements are a 3.0 GPA and at least 45 hours of completed coursework. For graduate students, the requirements are a 3.5 GPA and at least 12 hours of completed coursework. All students must be in the top 25 percent of their class.
Membership Costs:
A one-time $55 fee.
Membership Benefits:
The benefits are recognition as being one of the best students within the department, a newsletter and journal covering topics of interest to Family and Consumer Sciences professionals, and the opportunity to attend leadership conferences and apply for scholarships and grants which are sponsored by the national headquarters. The local chapter presents a $350 scholarship annually to one of its members. The national headquarters has scholarships for Master's and Doctoral studies, as well as chapter grants, research grants, and advisor grants.
