Becky Mentzer

Becky Mentzer is an Honors alum of Illinois State, completing her undergraduate degree in psychology in 1993 and her master's in counseling psychology in 1996 as a nontraditional student.  After working a number of years as a career counselor, she joined the Honors Program staff in 2002 as the Assistant Director, where she uses her experience when advising students, especially general students still trying to choose a major and career field to pursue.  Becky has years of experience in administering and interpreting results of the Myers-BriggsType Indicator and can often be heard spouting 4-letter types and how personality preferences play a part in how people respond and interact.  She happily does a number of MBTI workshops every year for first year Honors students.

Becky's primary responsibilities, besides advising students and assisting in making admission decisions, are to recruit and advise students applying for major scholarships and manage the application and screening process.  Any students who would like more information about prestigious scholarships, like Goldwater, Fulbright, etc., should make an appointment with Becky. One of her favorite roles is to coordinate the Honors Freshman Seminar which involves the supervision and training of Honors Peer Mentors, undergraduates who assist with the seminar.  She teaches several sections of the seminar each fall.

Becky is the co-chair of the Executive Board of the Women's Mentoring Network and also co-chair of their Recruiting/Matching Committee. She began a three-year term on A/P Council in August 2006 and is serving on the Council for the First-Year Experience.  Becky is the Faculty Mentor for Colby 5 in Honors House this year.
