Becky Mentzer

Becky Mentzer is an Honors alum of Illinois State, completing her undergraduate degree in psychology in 1993 and her master's in counseling psychology in 1996 as a nontraditional student. After working a number of years as a career counselor, she joined the Honors Program staff in 2002, where she uses her experience when advising students, especially general students still trying to choose a major and career field to pursue. Becky has years of experience in administering and interpreting results of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and can often be heard spouting 4-letter types and how personality preferences play a part in how people respond and interact. She happily does a number of MBTI workshops every year for first year Honors students.

As Associate Director, Becky coordinates the Presidential Scholars Program, which involves advising students, assisting them with their Faculty Colleague plans, and teaching the Presidential Scholars Freshman Colloquium with two Presidential Scholars Assistants. She also plans and teaches the one-hour themed interdisciplinary colloquia for Presidential Scholars.

Becky also is the campus Fulbright Program Advisor and assists in recruiting and advising students applying for this major scholarship, and managing the application and screening process. Any students who would like more information about prestigious scholarships should get in touch with Becky.

Becky has been the Faculty Mentor for Colby 5 in Honors House since fall 2006. She is part of the Women's Mentoring Network and is on the conference planning committee and is a mentor for two nontraditional students. She began a three-year term on A/P Council in August 2006 and served on the Council for First-Year Experience for two years.
